Green Materials That We Use

Virtually all of our products are green in one way or another.  Our cabinetry from Schrock, Decora and Homecrest are all certified by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association.  Their commitment to the environment is phenomenal and the homeowner can rest assured that all viable steps are being taken to protect the environment as much as possible.

The engineered stones that we use all have environmental certifications as well.  Cambria, Silestones, Zodiaq and Caesarstone are all Greenguard certified to prove that they are not harmful to indoor air quality.  Additionally, each manufacturer adheres to clean manufacturing practices and works toward constant environmental stewardship.

When it comes to granite, rest assured that as a natural material, you can feel safe knowing that there is nothing harmful in rock.  Many people have asked "What about radon?"  The EPA has tested granite repeatedly and has never found harmful levels of radiation present.  In fact, the EPA has stated "“Based on existing studies, most types of granite used in countertops and other aspects of home construction are not typically known to be major contributors of radiation and radon in the average home.”  For a thoroughly informative brochure on this topic, click here.

In quarrying granite, producers are making great strides in protecting the environment through recycling water and limited waste.  Additionally, unlike engineered quartz products, granite and other natural stones do not need NSF or Greenguard certification because they do not contain man made materials.  Thus, while all of these products carry these certifications, the fact that natural stones don't shouldn't be held against them.  They don't carry them because they don't need them since they do not contain polymers, dyes, formaldehyde and other man-made, known harmful substances.

Kohler also does a great job using recycled materials in its products.  Did you know that all Kohler cast iron sinks consist of recycled cast iron and are, in fact, recyclable themselves?  Additionally, Kohler is an industry leader in water conservation.  They continually build toilets and faucets that are known to save water with each and every use.  Kohler won the EPA Water Efficiency Award in 2008 and 2009.
